The de-stashing

Happy new year to all you folks out there! I spent the first part of my New Year’s Eve cleaning my always messy craft room, so far it has stayed clean.

The other side of course is still messy, it’s a never ending work in progress.

It’s been nice to work in there with the wood stove roaring during these cold days (-15 anyone?), the wind has been blowing non stop, but is sure does look pretty outside

I have several projects going on ( Don’t I always?), I am still working on the usual things, however those have been out on a back-burner while I finish up an order for 8 moose loveys.

I am really loving the plaid stitch, this is the first time I have ever attempted it and it turned out to be easier than I expected.

As you can see in the first picture, I have a rather large amount of yarn…..I’ve been called a hoarder, while I wouldn’t say that I’m at that level (I can see my floor and move around), I may have a slight…fiber addiction… however I am resolved to use a little bit up each day.

I was inspired by Nadia over at Yarnutopia with her 365 days of granny squares, so I thought “what a great way to use up some yarn” and you know I’ll be able to make that granny square Christmas tree that has been going around.

Not only am I doing squares but I am doing basic crochet hats as well, Are they pretty? Not all of them but why not.

Day one

Day two

Have a nice night folks! Stay warm!!

The often absent “blogger”

That’s got a fitting ring to it doesn’t it?!

Hello folks, I’m back and I’ve missed you all. I didn’t mean to take off, but we have been having a fun busy summer filled with trips to the park and plenty of outdoor fun

Toph and the kids built a fort

We’ve been berry picking

And tubing down the river

Toph has been making ginger ale

  And I have been canning

And I’ve managed to get some crochet work in!!

A friend asked for a cabbage patch hat for her daughter a couple of weeks ago, I was a little unsure about it at first having never done loops, but I just did a basic crochet hat and the loops turned out easier then I thought they would

I’m actually pretty proud of myself considering I went by pictures.

I also decide to give granny squares another go, which not only turned out well for me

But I spent this past weekend at the home of my bosom friend for her 29th birthday and taught her how to make a granny square and well, she has surpassed me. It took me months to figure it out, she is a pretty fast learner

First on the left and second on the right, when I came home today I received a picture of two more squares!!

See folks!! She is amazing!!!

After all the other crochet I have been doing, Leif demanded that I continue on with his blanket, which turned out to need two more skeins of yarn, sadly that limelight Caron simply soft yarn was discontinued or so they told me at the only place around here to get yarn (you’re not in Kansas anymore Dorthy čśş). I wasn’t about to pay twice as much on Amazon, so we picked a second color.

I think it’s coming along rather nicely!

As the summer is slowly coming to an end (the leaves have already started to change colors), I am still crossing my fingers that a house will come our way, this week will be another week of looking at potential properties where we can grow our own food, which will help me to stop crying over the grocery bill every time I exit the store. It’s amazing how much you can save when you have a garden.

I’m picturing fields of sheep whose wool will become fluffy blankets, cows grazing happily on the lawn, pigs and chickens, and more. Here’s hoping!!
Have a great week Folks!!

I’ve got sunshine

Yes, the sun has arrived brining warm days (50 yesterday woohoo!!), Snow is melting (though we are getting more this weekend) and we have been able to spend more time outside without umpteen layers of clothing weighing us down.

´╗┐The green trees on the mountains, are a beautiful sight!

I’ve been working more on the cosplay costume, though I don’t have an updated picture right now, it pretty much looks the same, just a little longer.

With the help of my father inlaw, the case of the “what the heck is wrong with this stuffed bear”, has been solved. There was too much fabric in the legs. This problem has now been fixed and the final part is being sewed up tonight!!!

I have been trying forever to make a granny square, the first one of which I did not take a picture of turned out to be a circle, the second was a bit more…..square-like

´╗┐´╗┐The third, with better instructions from a friend

´╗┐´╗┐turned out much better. I want to keep practicing and hopefully use up a large chunk of my yarn stash.

I also made a pencil grip this week, Lorelai has been complaining about how her hand works while writing….while I am sure this will only work for a few moments, it was fun to make.

Have a great day folks!!!
